Sources: Retired Favre Itching to Play … Again

Though Brett Favre referred to recent rumblings as “all rumor,” multiple sources close to the retired QB say the Green Bay legend has “got the itch” to play again, reports ESPN. His brother, who noted that Favre has been working out, put a return at “50-50.” Wisconsin-based news outlets, citing an NFL source, are reporting that Favre has asked for his release from the Packers.

The Packers apparently refused to release him, though ESPN’s sources deny talks ever progressed to that point. “Brett’s a high-quality person and he’s not going to push it that far. He’ll do the right thing,” said a source from the Packers’ organization. “Brett Favre is retired and until he tells me something different, that’s what it is,” confirmed his agent.

Brinkley: ‘I Thought We Were Happy’

Christie Brinkley took the stand today in her increasingly lurid divorce trial, weeping as she recalled how her porn-loving husband cheated on her with a teenager, the New York Daily News reports. When an opposing lawyer reminded all she was an actress during a largely unsuccessful cross-examination, the supermodel shot back, “I’m no Meryl Streep.” During a break, hubby Peter Cook sniped, “Shrek was more believable.”

The beauty often shot withering stares at her former love as she gave damning testimony. She described the night a man approached her and said of Cook, “He’s having an affair with my teenage daughter. The bastard won’t knock it off. so I had to come to you.” Brinkley fled the home the couple shared with their two children, eventually showing up, knees bloodied, at the home of the friend who introduced them. They used to “sleep like spoons together,” Brinkley said. “I thought we were happy.”

Gov’t Workers Peeked at Celeb Passport Data

Government employees have been taking unauthorized peeks at electronic passport records of celebrities, says a State Department report that suggests the travel data of 127 million Americans is at risk. One high-profile person’s records were opened 356 times by more than six dozen people, the Washington Post reports. Five contractors have been fired and dozens are being probed.

The report documents a widespread lack of controls on the personal data: of a list of 150 famous Americans, 127 had had their information accessed over 4,100 times in the past 5 1/2 years. The audit was prompted by the discovery in March that workers at the department had snooped in passport files of Barack Obama, John McCain and Hillary Clinton.

Jilted Wife: Madonna Cast Spell on A-Rod

Cynthia Rodriguez thinks that Madonna has broken up her marriage with the power of mysticism, friends of Yankee Alex Rodriguez’s wife tell the Daily News. She apparently found a note in which the slugger calls Madonna his “true soulmate” and is convinced they’re having an affair—and that dark arts are involved. “I feel like Madonna is using mind control over him,” she told one friend.

Rumors that Cynthia is having her own affair with Lenny Kravitz are untrue, the friends say. They paint a picture of a jilted wife, who has tearfully told them she still loves her husband. According to them, it was A-Rod who told her the marriage was over, and who suggested she visit Kravitz in Paris to clear her head

Hydro-Seal Floor Moisture-Mitigation System Announced by Formulators

The Hydro-Seal™ floor moisture-mitigation system has been announced by Formulators, Inc. The system includes flooring adhesives, primer and membrane coatings engineered to work together to achieve five-year warranted moisture-resistance of up to 12 pounds moisture-vapor-emission-rate at a cost of approximately 65 cents per square foot. Hydro-Seal is the first and only comprehensive floor moisture-mitigation system to be third-party certified for Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS), FloorScore and LEED credits for low-emitting materials.

All Hydro-Seal moisture-mitigation products resist microbial growth, are free of VOCs, exhibit bond strengths up to 300% stronger than similar products, and are performance-warranted for five years. Hydro-Seal adhesives are available for VCT, sheet vinyl, rubber, wood, cork, bamboo and other floor coverings. Hydro-Seal primer and membrane coatings dry quickly and allow for same day installation.

Hydro-Seal adhesives are formulated to resist a minimum of 8 pounds moisture-vapor-emission-rate (MVER) per thousand square feet per 24 hours at pH 10 and 85% insitu relative humidity per ASTM F1869, F710 and F2170 standards. Combining Hydro-Seal adhesives with Hydro-Seal primer and membrane coatings results in five year performance-warranted moisture-resistance levels of from 10 to 12 pounds at a cost of approximately 65 cents per square foot.

The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) facilitates the design, construction and operation of schools whose environments are energy and resource efficient and healthy. FloorScore, developed by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute and Scientific Certification Systems, tests and certifies flooring and adhesive products for compliance with rigorous indoor air quality emissions requirements.

New On-line Tutorials on Promoter Analysis Tools

OpenHelix today announced the availability of new tutorial suites on several promoter analysis resources including Melina II, Consensus, MDscan, Gibbs and MEME. The first tutorial of this set is on Melina II , a freely available web-based tool for promoter analysis. Researchers can use several algorithms with the Melina II analysis including Consensus, MDscan, Gibbs and MEME. Melina II and these four algorithms are used to find DNA motifs that may represent regulatory regions such as promoters or enhancers, or protein motifs and domains important in protein function. The additional tutorials in the OpenHelix promoter analysis set include short introductory tutorials on all four of these useful and important algorithms for promoter analysis.

The tutorial suites, available for single purchase or through a low-priced yearly subscription to all OpenHelix tutorials, contain a narrated, self-run, online tutorial, slides with full script, handouts and exercises. With the tutorials, researchers can quickly learn to effectively and efficiently use these resources. These tutorials will teach users:

    * about the algorithms that can be used through Melina II
    * how to do basic DNA and protein motif searches
    * how to understand and interpret your search results
    * how to display graphic representation of motifs

To find out more about these and other tutorial suites visit OpenHelix or the OpenHelix Blog for up-to-date information on genomics.
